India-Pak warm-up match put on high alert
London, Jun 3: As India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their second warm-up match of the World Twenty20 at the Oval today, security has been put on high alert for the practice match, which was declared a sell-out just 48 hours after the tickets sales were opened.
The security officials are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure the safety of the players following the attack on the Sri Lanka team's bus in Lahore two months ago in which six policemen were killed and seven players were injured.
The security preparations for the match have involved extra night watchmen and sniffer dogs to defend against explosives, as well as 100 additional match stewards.
Once the match is completed, about half the revenue from the 23,000 sell-out at the Oval will be forwarded to the ICC's initiative ''Catch the Spirit''.
