We won’t drop charges against Goa minister's son: Police
Panaji, Nov 11, 2008: In another twist in the high-profile rape case involving a German girl and Goa Education Minister Antanasio Monserratte's son Rohit, the police on Tuesday said that they won’t drop charges against him and will continue their probe. The hardening of stand by the Goa Police comes a day after the German mother expressed her willingness to withdraw her complaint, against Rohit, citing "frustration" over the manner in which the rape case was being probed. The complaint against 21-year-old Rohit Monserratte was filed on October 02 and subsequently the First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on October 14.
The Goa Police booked Rohit on the charge of raping, outraging modesty, abetting crime and sending lewd messages to the 14-year-old German girl.
The German mother has justified the withdrawal of complaint against Goa minister’s son in a letter written and submitted by her yesterday afternoon.
She has also expressed her concerns that her daughter may become infamous as UK teenager “Scarlette Keeling”, who was raped and murdered on Goa's popular Anjuna Beach on February 18.
"Since the day I have filed the complaint on October 14, life has become hell for both me and my daughter. There are allegations and counter allegations in the media and we have now realised that we have been trapped in a situation (that is) not in our interest. We are also scared of being Scarlett II," reads the letter written and submitted by the German mother.
