Cong neither supports nor opposes capital punishment to Guru
Bhopal, Nov 03: Defending his party's stand on Afzal Guru, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today said his party had neither supported nor opposed the capital punishment given to the prime accused in the Parliament attack case. "There was no reason for the Congress either to support or oppose the capital punishment given to Guru," Singh told PTI.
The BJP and its leader L K Advani has no right to demand early hanging of Guru as 24 cases of clemency were pending when Advani was the Home Minister for six long years and he had not taken a decision even on one of them, Singh said.
Singh said that he had never advocated the capital punishment given to Guru, who had already been sentenced by the Supreme Court.
Singh said that compared to other political parties, the Congress had suffered the most due to terrorism as it had lost the lives of many party leaders including two former Prime Ministers.
"The Congress does not need lessons from any other political party on how to deal with or handle terrorism," he said.
