BJP calls Assam Bandh
Guwahati, Nov 01, 2008: Protesting against the serial car bomb blasts in different districts of Assam, Bharatiya Janata party and Hindu outfit Vishwa Hindu Parishad have called for Assam bandh today. The blast took place on Thursday in which around 74 people lost their lives. The bandh has affected the traffic movement and no public vehicles are moving on the road.
Security has been beefed up in the state as the city witnessed anger and outrage on the streets, prompting the police to burst teargas shells and use force.
Terrorist outfit 'the Islamic Security Force' has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s serial blasts in Assam.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi are scheduled to visit Guwahati to take stock of the situation and to meet the blast victims.
