India to work for strengthening ties with neighbours: Krishna

New Delhi, Jun 8 : Outlining the contours of foreign policy of the new government, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna today said India would work for strengthening ties with neighbours to ensure outstanding issues are addressed and full potential of the region is realised.
He said India will also engage more closely with the global community and partners to deal with international terrorism "which threatens us all".

Addressing Delhi-based envoys of various countries, Krishna said a peaceful extended neighbourhood and a supportive international environment was the fundamental foreign policy objective of India which is committed to ensuring all-round inclusive growth.

Underlining that India has an "abiding interest" in the stability and prosperity of our neighbours, he said "In this new term of our Government, we look forward to further strengthening our relationship with the neighbours." "We will also work with our neighbours to ensure that outstanding issues are addressed and the full potential of our region is realised. We also believe that a prosperous and economically vibrant India is an asset and opportunity for our region," Krishna said.

In his first interaction with the foreign diplomatic corps, the External Affairs Minister said that India is "committed to working with each of your countries for shared peace, prosperity and security." PTI
