Madni remanded to 14 days PC, police to trail terrorist funds

New Delhi, Jun 5: Mohd Omar Madni, a suspected aide of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba founder Hafiz Saeed, was today remanded to 14 days police custody by a Delhi court to facilitate his interrogation to unearth whereabouts of his recruits in the country and trail alleged terror funds from abroad.
The court said custodial interrogation of the arrested militant was necessary as investigators have alleged that a conspiracy relating to national security was hatched and funds were received from Italy.

"Since the conspiracy in question is related to national security, I am satisfied that the accused is required to be remanded to police custody for sustained interrogation. For this purpose, the accused is remanded to police custody till June 19," Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja said.

Public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan contended that Madni was a trained militant working with LeT since 1997 and one of his recruits Kamal Ansari was arrested for his involvement in the 2007 Mumbai train blast case.

"It has been revealed during the interrogation that Madni recruited LeT militant Kamal Ansari, who has been arrested in Mumbai train blast case, and three other militants who had been convicted by a Delhi court," he alleged.

Madni, who was arrested yesterday, was working to recruit fresh hands for the outfit and had revealed "vital inputs about LeT operatives working against India in Nepal", police claimed. PTI
