Plus 40 at most places in North

New Delhi, May 27:Day temperatures settled above 40 degree celsius at most places in the northern belt today as heat wave continued to scorch the region with Churu in the desert state of Rajasthan baking at 45.8 degrees.
Hisar too sizzled at 45.7 degrees as mercury rose by two to four degrees in Haryana and Punjab forcing people to scurry for shade.

The national capital sweated it out with the maximum temperature breaching the 40 degree mark after staying at comfortable levels in the past few days.

Mercury climbed to a maximum of 41.8 degrees in Delhi as compared to yesterday's 38.7.

Temperature also increased in hill state Himachal Pradesh in the absence of rain and snowfall.

Mercury inched upwards in picturesque Shimla to settle at 16 degree celsius against yesterday's 14.8 degrees. PTI
