Greenpeace expresses concern for those affected by Aila
Bangalore, May 26: In the backdrop of cyclone Aila, Greenpeace, the international organisation working for environment protection, today asked the sate governments concerned to take required action to prevent climate change.
"We hope the governments realise that climate change is going to increase the intensity and frequency of these occurrences," the organisation said in a release here.
There have been various scientific studies warning that global warming will result in an increase in the frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones.
According to a recent World Bank policy research paper released in April this year, India and Bangladesh are listed among the countries to be worst hit in South Asia.
"India can ill afford to be a silent spectator. We must pressurise the industrialised world to make deep and urgent emission cuts.
"At the same time, domestically, India must take ambitious actions to curtail CO2 emissions," it said. PTI
