Islamabad, May 9: A larger bench of Pakistan's Supreme Court will on May 11 begin hearing petitions, challenging the apex court's order barring opposition PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz from electoral politics.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry yesterday constituted the five-member larger bench to hear the petitions.

The court also issued notices to the Sharif brothers, the federal government, Attorney General Latif Khosa, Chief Election Commissioner Syed Khurram Shah and other persons who filed the case that led to the PML-N leaders being barred from contesting polls and holding elected office.

On March 31, a larger bench of the apex court suspended an order issued on February 25 that barred the Sharif brothers from electoral politics.

The larger bench also reinstated Shahbaz Sharif as the Chief Minister of Punjab until the disposal of the main petition.

The court, in its short order of March 31, said the February 25 judgment would remain suspended until the final disposal of the main petition. PTI
