PepsiCo head Indra Nooyi pitches for Indo-Pak dialogue
Washington, June 17: Representing the voice of the powerful US industry, Indian born PepsiCo head Indra K Nooyi today pitched for Indo-Pak dialogue, which she said is vital for the economic development of the region.
Noting that the "troubled relations between India and Pakistan have consequences to the rest of the world not just only in those two countries," Nooyi told a gathering of top Indian and US corporate leaders: "We believe it is vital that India engages with its neighbours, follow common market and enable meaningful investment opportunities."
A block away from the White House, Nooyi was addressing the inaugural session of the "Synergies Summit" of the US India Business Council. This is for the first time that voices from the US industry have come for a dialogue between India and Pakistan.
Nooyi said "we all hope" that Pakistan can develop peacefully and democratically, which is good for its people, its neighbours. "In this era in which technology and communication brings together politics and economies of distant nations together, we are all connected," she said.
Arguing for Indo-Pak dialogue, Nooyi said: "That way if India can build on a matures benefit of shared prosperity, it can help ensure that the delicate relationship between these two nations are maintained on a peaceful footing." PTI
