Srinagar, Jan 15, 2009: Electricity, water and roads are the main demands of the people in Kashmir, where the coalition government has started streamlining the administration after assuming office in the state. Official sources said people from different parts of the valley, who are coming to meet minister for Rural development and Panchayats Ali Mohammad Sagar in the winter secretariat, which has started functioning from January 13, are demanding proper roads, supply of electricity and water.
They said the deputations which called on Mr Sagar during the past two days to seek redressal of their problems mainly demand repair and upgradation of road network, streamlining of power and water supply. Several deputations demanded immediate repair of power transformers, damaged in the past.
Sources said Mr Sagar, to have on the spot solution of the problems, has directed the Power Commissioner, District Development Commissioner and other officers to remain present in the Winter Secretariat.
He issued instructions for addressing the concerns of the deputations on priority. Mr Sagar directed the officers to be prompt and positive in solving the people's problems and ensure execution of development and welfare schemes on ground. He said the people have high expectations from the present government and a collective endeavour has to be made to fulfill these hopes.
Sources said the National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition government in the state directed officers not to visit secretariat without any important work and instead attend to the problems of the people in their respective offices.
