Farooq Abdullah's resignation as MLA accepted

Jammu Jan 10: Jammu and Kashmir Assembly's pro-tem Speaker Chowdhary Mohammad Aslam has accepted National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah's resignation as MLA from Hazratbal constituency. 

The Speaker has accepted Abdullah's resignation with effect from January 7 and accordingly the seat has been declared vacant, an official spokesman said here on Saturday. 

The byelection to the seat will be held later, he said. 

Abdullah had contested from Hazratbal and Sonawar constituencies in the seventh and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections held on December 24 last year. He had won from both the constituencies.(PTI)
