Highway re-opened for one way traffic

Jammu, Jasn 09, 2009: The 300-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only surface link between Kashmir and rest of the country, was reopened today for one way traffic, transport authorities said here. The highway was closed for traffic on January 6 due to incessant snowfall at Jawahar tunnel which rendered the highway slippery and unmotorable, they said.

The traffic from Jammu to Srinagar and some stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective destinations in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley, they said.

The downward traffic from Srinagar to Jammu would be allowed from tomorrow, they added.
