Omar to take oath as CM on Monday, Aslam is Congress legislature party head
It was reliably learnt that beside Omar, former speaker and Congress MLA Tara Chand is likely to take oath as the deputy chief minister of the state. Five MLAs will be sworn in as the cabinet ministers.
Jammu, Jan 4: Soon after being unanimously elected as the leader of the National Conference Legislature Party, president National Conference today called on the governor NN Vohra, here today, to stake his claim to form new government in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He will take oath as chief minister of the state at Raj Bhawan on Monday. Well informed sources told (NAK) that Omar was unanimously elected as the leader of legislature party of NC, here this afternoon. His name was proposed by his father and party's chief patron Dr Farooq Abdullah at the legislature party meeting of the party at the party's headquarters, here on Sunday. Party sources said that all the remaining 25 MLAs of the party unanimously seconded the motion moved by Dr Abdullah. In the meanwhile, Legislative Party meeting of Congress was also held here today, which unanimously elected Choudhary Muhammad Aslam as the party leader. Sources said that Omar called on governor NN Vohra, this evening, to stake claim to form the new government in the state. The meeting, which lasted for around one hour, reportedly concluded with the decision that Omar shall take oath as the chief minister on Monday at 2 PM. "As no other party has till date stake claim for the formation of government in the state, it was obligatory on the governor to administer oath to Omar as chief minister", sources in the Raj Bhawan told (NAK). The names of Abdul Rahim Rather, Surjeet Singh Salathia, Nowang Rigzin Johra, Hakim Muhammad Yasin and Ghulam Hassan Mir were making rounds as the probable candidates for the cabinet birth. It is pertinent to mention here that Hakim Muhammad Yasin, whose Peoples Democratic Front has won only one seat and Ghulam Hassan Mir have already announced to join the coalition government. Sources said that both the MLAs would be given cabinet birth from the Congress's share. They said that the party is concentrating on the upcoming parliamentary elections for which both the leaders can play important role on two seats of Budgam and Gulmarg in Kashmir Valley.Rate this article
