Amidst boycott and sporadic protests, low to moderate polling was recorded in seven constituencies of North Kashmir's Baramulla district which went to polls Sunday in the fourth of the seven-phase elections.

Polling begin a low note in main town Baramulla constituency and hundreds of youth staged anti-election protests while as adjoining villages of Baramulla witnessed moderate polling till 12 noon.
Official sources said that Baramulla consistency witnessed 7.6 percent polling till 12 noon.
In Sopore, the hometown of separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, the turnout was six percent till 12 noon.
Minutes after the start of polling in Baramulla district, militants exploded a hand grenade on Sopore- Sangrama road but there was no report of loss of life or damage to property, official sources said.
Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Jain said a sound of explosion was heard but it was not of a hand grenade. There was no loss of life in the blast, he added.
Meanwhile hundreds of youth took to streets and staged anti- elections protests in Sopore, however, police and CRPF troopers swung into action resorted to lathi-cahrge and fired numerous teargas shells to disperse the protestors.
Scores of photo-journalists were allegedly roughed up by police and CRPF personnel while covering the anti- election demonstrations in Arampora, Merajpora, maintown Sopore..
Journalists told News Agency of Kashmir on phone that the incident occurred when the scribes were covering an anti-poll protest and subsequent action of lathi-charge and teargas shelling by security forces at Arampora village in Sopore.
Brisk voting was on in Uri, which registered 28, Rafiabad 16 percent, Sangrama 23, and Pattan 9.5 percent and in Gulmarg polling percent was 28 till 12 noon
While Gulmarg and Sangrama witnessed, 35 and28 percent polling respectively and Baramulla the lowest of 7.6 till 12 noon.
Officials said the polling in the north Kashmir region should be seen in the context of freezing temperatures and boycott calls by militants.
Long queues of voters were seen at many polling stations in Gulmarg constituency of Baramulla district where voters turned up right in the morning to exercise their franchise.
However, in the Shia Muslim majority villages of Pattan constituency, brisk polling was on. In Delina town of Baramulla constituency, an anti-poll protest was held by some local youth outside a polling station.
Reports from the central Badgam district indicate brisk polling at Khansahib (13 percent), Chadura (five), Beerwah (three), Badgam (6.9) and Charar-e-Sharief constituencies (2.3) there till 11 am.
Polling is being held amidst tight security measures in Baramulla (seven seats) and Budgam (five) in the Valley and three constituencies each in Reasi and Udhampur in the Jammu region. (NAK)
