Notification for fifth phase JK polls issued
Srinagar Nov 17: The notification for the fifth phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir covering 11 assembly segments of Pulwama, Shopian and Kathua districts was issued by Governor N N Vohra here today, an official spokesman said.
Polling in these 11 constituencies -- Tral, Pampore, Pulwama (Pulwama district), Rajpora, Wachi, Shopian (Shopian district), Bani, Basohli, Kathua, Billawar and Hiranagar (Kathua district) would be held on December 13.
The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for November 24 and the scrutiny will be held the following day. The last date for withdrawal would be November 27.
As many as 1,089 polling stations will be set up in the 11 constituencies to enable over 8,38,953 voters, including 4,01,833 women, to exercise their franchise.
Polling for the fist phase commenced today in 10 assembly segments in the state. A record number of 102 candidates are in the fray.
The notifications for the second phase covering six assembly segments -- four in Rajouri district and two in newly carved Ganderbal district -- going to polls on November 23 was issued on October 29, while notification for the third phase covering five assembly segments of Kupwara district going to polls on November 30 was issued on November four.
The notification for the fourth phase covering 18 segments of Baramulla (seven), Budgam (five), Reasi (three) and Udhampur (three) districts going to polls on December seven was issued on November 10. (PTI)
