Governor reviews rehabilitation issue of Kashmiri migrants
Jammu Nov 13: Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra today reviewed the implementation of rehabilitation package to facilitate the return of Kashmiri migrants who have settled in different parts of the country due to militancy.
Vohra observed that rehabilitation process will be more effective if it is done in consultation with the representatives of the various groups of migrants.
Chairing a review meeting here, the governor discussed various other projects which included proposed dwelling units in the valley.
It was also informed that the Central government has released the first instalment of Rs 8.35 crore for the provision of housing, transit accommodation and resumption of agriculture and horticulture activities in the valley and the guidelines for this have already been laid down.
The governor was also informed about the employment provision for the unemployed. Officials in the government have sent a communication in this regard which seeks to ascertain the interest of displaced people who are planning for their return. This is being done under Prime Minister's special package for the purpose.
Vohra directed the officials to place this information on the government website so that more people become aware of the initiatives.
The Prime Minister has granted a package of Rs 1618.40 crore for the construction of houses for the displaced people. The deputy commissioners of Baramulla and Anantnag have been asked to identify suitable sites for this purpose. (PTI)
