Srinagar Nov 11: Tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir is the only viable solution to the long-standing Kashmir issue, Awami National Conference (ANC) has said.
"Kashmir is a long pending dispute and can be resolved only through tripartite talks among India, Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir," ANC leader Muzaffar Shah said while addressing an election rally at Nadihal in Bandipora district in north Kashmir on Monday.
Stating that elections are not a substitute for resolving the issue, Shah said, "Elections have been thrust on the people of the state as the situation is not conducive for polls in view of the recent shrine board agitation and its fallout."
Three constituencies of Bandipora alongwith seven other constituencies in Leh and Kargil districts in Ladakh region and Poonch district of Jammu are scheduled to go to polls in the first phase on November 17.
"We have jumped into the fray to provide good governance without bloodshed, and we are accountable to people of Jammu and Kashmir and the rule of law," he said.
Restoration of security to life and property, honour of the people and providing a clean administration would be given top priority in our government, he said adding that all "black laws" would be repealed in the interests of people.
ANC would work for safeguarding the interests of the state and prevent any further damage to the identity of Kashmir, he added. (PTI)
