One militant killed in encounter

Srinagar Oct 28: An unidentified militant was on Tuesday killed in an encounter with security forces near the Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said.
The militant was killed in a gunfight near the LOC in Karnah sector of the district, the spokesman said. He is the second militant to be killed near the LOC in Kupwara district in as many days. On Monday, an unidentified militant was killed in nearby Keran sector. Meanwhile, an extortionist was arrested by police in Shopian district of South Kashmir early Tuesday.
A group of three youth, posing as militants, intruded into the house of one Ayub Bhat at Zaina-Bathoo in Imam Saheb area of Shopian late Monday night and demanded Rs. 3 lakhs, the spokesman said.
However, the inmates raised an alarm and caught hold one of the intruders who was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Humna village of Zainapora, while his two other associates managed their escape, the spokesman said.
He said Sheikh was handed over to police early Tuesday.
A case has been registered against him and efforts are on to nab his other two associates, the spokesman added.
