Not too old to retire from politics: Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar Oct 28: National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday ruled out retiring from politics in the near future, saying he was "young" to shoulder the responsibilities.
"I am not too old to retire from politics... I feel young and full of strength to shoulder the responsibilities," 72-year-old Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Asked why the NC president Omar Abdullah had nominated him as the party's candidate for Chief Ministership in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Abdullah said to head a government in the State was not a small matter.
"It is not a small matter. It is not an easy job to head the government in Jammu and Kashmir," he remarked.
However, Abdullah said, "one day he (Omar) will lead the State."
Asked if he was confident of his party winning the elections, Abdullah smiled and said, "I am full of charm. My face is smiling and charming."
He said the NC will announce list of candidates within three days. The party chief Omar Abdullah will return from Kargil and the list will be finalised and announced on October 30 or 31.
He said, but the names of some of the candidates for the first phase of elections on November 17 has already been announced.
Former minister Qammer Ali Akhoon and Feroz Ahmad Khan on Monday filed nomination papers for Kargil and Zanskar constituencies as NC candidates. Mosin Ali, also of NC, entered the fray as a cover candidate from Zanskar constituency.
Shah Mohammad Tantrey, a prominent public figure from Poonch today joined National Conference in presence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Patron National Conference.
While joining the party, Tantrey said it's a home coming for him and assured the party Patron that he will extend full support to the party's candidate from Poonch-Haveli Assembly constituency.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Patron National Conference welcomed his joining into the party fold and expressed hope that with his joining into the party will further emerge stronger in Poonch.
