Complete shutdown on black day in Kashmir; Mirwaiz other APHC leaders house arrested
Srinagar October 27: In occupied Kashmir, complete strike is being observed on Black Day, October 27, while Indian troops are patrolling streets in cities and towns across Kashmir Valley.
This was the day in 1947 when Indian armed forces invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it quite contrary to Kashmiris’ aspirations and in clear violation of the partition plan of the sub-continent. Observance of the Day is intended to convey to the international community that Kashmiris reject India’s illegal occupation of their soil.
Schools, colleges, business centres, Banks government and semi-government offices in the occupied territory are closed and traffic is off the road. The Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee has given the call for observance of the Black Day.
The occupation authorities put the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and several other Hurriyet leaders including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Yasmeen Raja, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Salim Gilani, Javed Ahmed Mir and Manan Bukhari under house arrest to prevent them from taking out protest procession and taking part in human chain stretching from the lower courts to the High Court Srinagar.
The occupation authorities imposed an undeclared curfew in Srinagar and even media men were not allowed to move freely in the city. Meanwhile troops enforced a strict curfew in Baramulla town, where one youth was martyred and several others injured in troops’ unprovoked firing on peaceful protesters on Sunday.
