Soldier Commits Suicide in Kashmir
Srinagar Aug 17: An Indian soldier committed suicide by shooting himself dead from his service rifle inside an army camp in Kashmir.
Police sources said that a soldier of 49 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) shot himself dead from his own service weapon in the Sector headquarter camp at Ujroo in the Dooru area of south Kashmir. The deceased was identified as Palwinder Singh, 49.
The service rifle was found lying with the body of the jawan.
Police have registered and started investigations. "The motive behind the soldier taking such an extreme step could not be immediately known," police said.
The Indian army has also launched a Court of Inquiry to ascertain as to why the soldier committed the suicide.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian army has taken several measures to prevent its troopers from committing suicide in Kashmir.
More than two dozen army personnel have committed suicide in the violence-hit Kashmir this year so far.
