Manual de-weeding of Dal and Nigeen lakes has been started by the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) in Srinagar.
Srinagar Aug 01: Manual de-weeding of Dal and Nigeen lakes has been started by the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) in Srinagar.
On the instructions of Governor N N Vohra, LAWDA has initiated manual cleaning of Dal and Nigeen lakes on a large scale, an official spokesman said in Srinagar on Thursday.
About 300 persons living in Dal area have been engaged in cleaning operation. The manual de-weeding will continue till a reasonably good level of cleaning is achieved, he added.
He said LAWDA has divided Dal into 10 zones for the said purpose.
The Dal cleaning has also been started from Nishat to Habak, including Hazratbal basin where intensity of the weed is higher.
The governor had instructed LAWDA not only to speed up the execution of all the components of Dal conservation plan approved by central government but also improve its aesthetics so as to restore its pristine glory.
