Seminar on AIDS at Baramulla
Baramulla, July 24 - 92 percent areas in Jammu and Kashmir have been covered under Awareness programmes launched by Jammu and Kashmir AIDS Prevention and Control Society by involvement of various agencies as per the survey conducted by behaviour senitional surveillance resulting in the reduction of AIDS graph to 0.3 percent in high risk groups and 0.02 percent in general population in the state. About 72000 people have voluntarily got themselves tested against AIDS through counseling centres opened in every district.
This was stated yesterday during an HIV/AIDS advocacy seminar organized by Rural Development department district Baramulla at Dak Bungalow Baramulla in collaboration with J&K State AIDS prevention and control society. The seminar which was inaugurated by Director AIDS Society J&K, M. A. Wani was presided over by Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla and attended by BLOs, Doctors, VLWs, Multipurpose Workers, Self Help Groups, Panchayat members and social workers.
Director AIDS Control Society said that intensive awareness programme through electronic and print media has already been launched and under religious advocacy programme, 840 Imam's have been trained besides two teachers in 2000 high and higher secondary school, 17000 workers of social welfare department 2400 Surpanches and Panchas have also been trained who would work as Ambassadors for convening the messages in their respective areas.
