Commissioner Industries recommissions facility centre at Nowshera

Srinagar, July 16 - UNDP a Wool Utilization Project set up at Nowshera in 1975 as a pilot project for upgrading the processing of raw wool and woolen fabrics in Jammu and Kashmir was recommissioned by Commissioner Secretary Industries, Dr. Pawan Kotwal today. During 2001-02 under critical infrastructure balanced scheme, repairs and renovation of the project was taken up at a cost of Rs. 80 lakh. The project is equipped with the latest machinery and equipments for scouring, dyeing, spinning and finishing facilities.

Present at the recommissioning of the project were Director Handlooms Mrs. Nirmal Sharma and other senior officers and members of Primary Handloom Cooperative Society.

On the occasion, Industries Commissioner said that the facility centre can cater to the needs of entire handloom sector of the state by way of providing scouring and dyeing facility for raw-wool, finishing facility for fabrics and providing training to weavers, dyers and finishers in the state. The facility centre having unique facilities is also equipped with woolen spinning line with allied equipments which can facilitate in sample development activity and helping processing of wool at various stages from scouring to finished products. The project, he said, has the intake capacity facilities of 240 Kg per day, loose wool scouring 150 Kg dyeing of loose wool and yarn dyeing of 60 Kgs of fabrics and spinning of 10 Kgs wool daily.
