"PDP- a movement, to change Kashmir's destiny" Despite 2/3rd majority National Conference never delivered: Sayeed
Srinagar June 19: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today observed that resumption of trade with Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK) is only a matter of time as the aspirations of the people on both sides of the border are to have free trade in this region. Sayeed was addressing a party workers convention (Tangmarg constituency), at his official residence in Gupkar. The PDP Patron said that although the process vis-à-vis resumption of trade may be a bit slow but there is no going back on this unavoidable confidence building measure.
Sayeed hailed the decision for increase in frequency of Srinagar Muzaffrabad Bus service saying that it will not only connect the divided families who after a long haul have cherished their dreams but it will revitalize the confidence among the two people who for the past many decades had no interaction with each other. He said that PDP not only initiated amicability between the two estranged neighbours India and Pakistan but also infused the mutual trust between the two. "Gone are the days when people would deem the state government as an extension of the central government. The elections of 2002 in which PDP emerged as people's voice gave credibility and respect to the democratic set up in Jammu and Kashmir," Sayeed added.
The PDP patron further remarked that settlement of Kashmir issue has been his party's priority and even as chief minister he while addressing the state assembly, made it clear that his party's agenda will be to redress this issue amicably and in a dignified manner. However, he added that his party does not want to befool people like National Conference which despite having 2/3rd majority never delivered what it had promised with the people. "If people want to change the destiny of Kashmir, strengthen the hands of PDP which has never believed in political gimmicks and has implemented in letter and spirit what it promised with the masses," Sayeed added.
He said that PDP's role since it took reins in 2002 is being acknowledged by one and all at state, national and international level, adding that besides harnessing STF terror, repealing of POTA, fair recruitment, and infrastructure development, PDP gave Kashmiris a sense of security and restored their lost dignity and honour. The PDP Patron said that his party has assumed a role to bring out Kashmiris out of economic and political quagmire which did not only affect their livelihood but kept them in a psychological trauma all along the turmoil.
Besides party senior vice president Moulana Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, the convention was addressed by Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Sheikh who led the workers delegation from Tangmarag.
