Srinagar, May 30 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Ms Mehbooba Mufti has said in the coming elections her party would seek mandate for carrying forward the unaccomplished political and economic agenda that was pioneered by the PDP-led Coalition Government under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Addressing a public meeting at Shanpora in Hazratbal constituency today, Ms Mufti said the measures of immense political and economic significance taken by the Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed not only transformed the political discourse within the State but facilitated some noteworthy initiatives towards the peaceful and amicable settlement of the Kashmir issue. "But the task is still unaccomplished and it needs a credible and strong-headed political leadership to secure peace, progress and dignity for the people of Jammu & Kashmir," she said and added that PDP has laid strong foundations towards achieving this objective and, if it gets the mandate, the party would carry forward its political and economic mission under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Ms Mufti said the wide-ranging public acknowledgment of the fact that the credible leadership and non-nonsense approach of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has discernibly impacted the State's political and developmental landscape, especially during the period he headed the Coalition Government, is the outcome of the PDP's pursuance with conviction of its pro-people policies, both on the security and developmental fronts. "And, if we get the mandate, the party would redouble its efforts to ensure dignified peace and productive prosperity for the people in all the regions and sub-regions of the State," she said and added that the party has been constantly and with conviction raising the issues touching the skin of the State's people.
"Whether it is the issue of reduction of troops, revocation of the special powers, rehabilitation of the victims of violence, irrespective of their affiliation or safe passage to the youth who want to come back from across the border and live peaceful lives, PDP has never compromised on its stand on these vital issues," Ms Mufti said and added that even the party's once used to ridicule us for raising such crucial issues have now started rallying around our stand.
Addressing the meeting senior PDP leader and Minister for Finance, Housing & Urban Development Tariq Hameed Karra accused the National Conference of exploiting the people of the Srinagar city as a vote-bank without addressing their developmental concerns. He said the Coalition Government has done what NC couldn't do in 27 years for the Srinagar city.
Karra said Batamalloo has today become a model constituency in the Srinagar city as the residents of this constituency have for the first time seen development taking place there. He said if PDP gets the mandate o the people in Srinagar, every constituency would become a replica of the Batamalloo constituency in terms of development.
Giving a resume of various development projects being executed in Hazratbal constituency, Karra said besides the completion of Tailbal bridge, work would be soon started on Kashipora and Shanpora bridges for which money has been released. He said the other works taken up in the area include construction of slaughter house at Wanhama, providing drinking water facility to Habak and Shanpora, resumption of work on Batpora and Telbal Lift Irrigation Schemes, development of Sports Stadium at Malbagh, development and beautification of shrine at Jenab Sahab Soura, restoration and renovation of Nigeen club and construction of road from Umerhair to Dagpora.
PDP leader Aasiya Naqash also addressed the meeting.
