N.S.S. celebrates Statistics Day on 29th June

Srinagar, May 30, 2008: With the objective of building a sound data base of India economy for objective of planning and policy making in the government of India, the Field Operation Division of National Sample Survey Organisation under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Govt. of India, is engaged in the task of conducting large scale sample survey in various fields.
The Government of India has decided to designate June 29 every year as the Statistical Day in the category of special day to be celebrated at the National level. The day is being celebrated in reorganization of the notable contribution made by Late Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of economic planning and statistical development in the post independent era. The objective of this day is to create public awareness among the people especially the younger generation for drawing inspiration from Late Prof. Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulations.
The eminent persons in the field of Statistics, Management and Economics are requested to send their topics in about 300 words on the topic “IMPORTANCE OF STATISTICAL DATA IN JAMMU & KASHMIR” to Deputy Director and Regional Head, National Sample Survey Organization (Field Operations Division), Regional Office, Shivpora, Batwara, Srinagar by or before 20th June 2008.  Cash rewards of Rs.1000/-, Rs.500/- and Rs. 200/- shall be given to the first three approved topics on the Statistics Day – 29th June, 2008.
