Parleys on for pvt air services to Kargil: CM

Srinagar May 30: Negotiations are on with some private airline companies for launch of services to Kargil in frontier Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said today.
"Negotiations are on with owners of some private airline companies for operating services to Kargil and I hope the dream will be soon realised," Azad said after inaugurating the 200 KW high power transmitter of All India Radio in Kargil town.
The two airports in Leh and Kargil are being upgraded and Azad had invited a high-level civil aviation ministry team to inspect the works.
Azad also laid the foundation stone for 44 MW Chhutak hydel power project and visited public information campaign for flagship projects under Bharat Nirman in the district. The project, across river Suroo, will be executed by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
The upgraded AIR transmitter -- from 1 KW to 200 KW -- will now be able to broadcast beyond Ladakh to the rest of the state and even to Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.
Two hydel power projects -- Nimo-Bazgo and Chhutak in Leh and Kargil districts respectively -- announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address power scarcity in the region, he added.
