Karbalai Demands University Campus at Kargil Three Day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign Commences at Kargil

Kargil, May 27, 2008: Urging the people of Kargil district to take full advantage of all centrally sponsored schemes, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai has said that the developmental scenario of the district has undergone a sea change in last three years. Inaugurating three-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at “Bhima Thang” Stadium here today he said that Central and State Government has given generous funds to the district and all demands projected by LAHDC have been by and large met. Referring to the educational scenario in the district, he said that though a lot has been done and the district is at number four in the State in terms of literacy rate, yet lot has to be done to come on top and give quality education to our new generation. He hoped that the honourable Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir will fulfill the demand of the people of Kargil to establish a University Campus at Kargil.  

The three-day campaign has been organised by Press Information Bureau, Directorate of Field Publicity, Song & Drama Division, All India Radio and other media units of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting jointly in collaboration with district administration. Among others Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau, Government of India, New Delhi, Smt. Deepak  Sandhu, Executive Councilors, Nissar Hussain Munshi, Haji Mohammad Ishaq, Sonam Namgiyal, Additional Director General, PIB, Jammu & Kashmir, Smt. Bharti Vaid and Deputy Commissioner, Shri Satish Nehru attended the inaugural function. 

Mr. Karbalai lauded the effort of Press Information Bureau in organizing such a campaign at Kargil but said that as the population in this hilly district is scattered there is need for holding such campaigns at the block level. 

In her address, Principal Director General, PIB outlined the objective of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign under the new media outreach strategy and said that so far more than 200 such campaigns have been organized across the country. She said that the objective is to create awareness among the people about the schemes for the welfare of “aam admi” and empower them with relevant information in this regard. Smt. Bharti Vaid in her welcome address said that the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign is aimed at bringing transparency in the functioning of implementing agencies of various centrally sponsored schemes. 

Earlier, Mr. Karbalai inaugurated the campaign and inspected around 30 stalls established by various Government Departments as part of the campaign. He also gave away the prizes among the position holders of various schools who had participated on different themes of the campaign in the pre-campaign programmes organised by Directorate of Field Publicity.
