Syed Salahuddin’s statement of not favoring gun in assembly polls a welcome gesture: Ms Mehbooba Mufti
Anantnag May 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Ms Mehbooba Mufti today welcomed the statement of United Jihad Council (UJC) Supremo Syed Salahuddin in which he asserted that they would not favor gun in the coming assembly polls and if people would cast ballot on their own, nobody would stop them.
Addressing an impressive public meet in Anantnag assembly segment she added that violence is no solution to any problem and people can use their right to vote only in a peaceful atmosphere. Reiterating that political empowerment and developmental progress should go hand in hand, Ms Mufti said that both the imperatives could not be segregated in the larger interests of common Kashmiris. She said that it was PDP which facilitated bonhomie between the two neighboring but hostile countries India and Pakistan with a sole aim to resolve the Kashmir problem without challenging the sovereignty of any of these countries.
"Our youth was first and the worst victim of this conflict and we cannot wait endlessly and allow our next generation to get annihilated. A beginning has to be made," She observed, adding that her party has envisaged a plan to accommodate state's qualified but unemployed youth in both government and private sector. She said that a comprehensive plan in offing to control the unemployment which is the biggest challenge before the state government.
Ms Mufti said that under the able leadership of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, her party initiated and implemented to a great extent an inclusive programme to bring out Kashmiris out of economic and political quagmire. "The change you see on the ground is because of PDP's pro people policies and come what may we would pursue these plans with conviction," Ms Mufti added. Elucidating on various aspects of the Self-Rule document, Ms Mufti said that it encompasses practical proposals for the resolution of the political, economic, internal and external dimensions of the issue of Jammu & Kashmir that could constitute the fundamentals of a comprehensive resolution package in tune with the global and ground realities.
She said her party's Self-Rule proposal offers an inclusive solution that not only adequately accommodates the just concerns of all the regions and sub-regions of the State, but that of India and Pakistan as well. "There are various quarters who are trying tooth and nail to sabotage the confidence building process in Jammu & Kashmir, but the leadership of India and Pakistan have the onerous responsibility of vetoing the designs of the vested interests and give the much-needed final push to the peace process," Ms Mufti added.
The importance of district Anantnag, she said, was neglected in past but under the Urban Development, PDP Patron during his chief ministership had approved a 100 crore project for internal development of Anantnag town.
