Valley based milk CS exports touches Rs. 50 lakh
Srinagar, September 08 – Kashmir Valley is not more deficit in the production of milk which is now established fully from the fact that during last year, the milk plant at Cheshmashahi, Srinagar exported 1 lakh liters of raw milk to Mother Dairy, Delhi and the trend continues till date. Some of the Valley based dairy cooperative societies, which are already marketing their produce outside the Valley have thus ushered in the new era of self sufficiency in milk production and paved the way for non reliance on outside milk supply.
As per the reports from Animal Husbandry department, Kashmir, the combined export of milk from three valley based cooperatives has touched 275.74 tons in the last four months with an estimated Rs. 49.63 lakhs. In the month of August only a total of 129.2 tons of milk has been exported. The leading contributors to this milestone of sorts has been the Srinagar based MPCL (Snowcap), Cheshmashahi with a contribution of 71.6 tons of pasteurized milk fetching the cooperative a total of Rs. 12.88,874 @ of Rs. 18 per liter of milk. This is followed by the two Pulwama based milk cooperatives, MPCMP and Zum Zum milk products both the societies operating from Lassipora Pulwama. The milk produced by the three cooperatives is being marketed for consumption by two Jammu based companies namely MPCL Satwari and Vaid milk products limited.
The Animal Husbandry department by providing health care facilities and technical guidance to the Dairy farms is thus playing a key role in helping the Valley based farming community to increase their produce and then to market it locally within the Valley and outside the Valley through milk cooperative societies as well.
