Service to people is service to God: Rather

Srinagar Sep 07: Service to people is service to God, said Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather while addressing a largely attended public darbar at Budgam today. He said that deeds of human beings would be put to account both here and hereafter and cautioned that dis-service always lands one-self into trouble
The Minister said that redressal of public grievances is included in the priority agenda of the government, adding that Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah has opened a public grievance Cell in his office to personally get acquainted with the problems faced by the people. He said that the officers should make it a habit to perform rather to shirk work, as maximum issues could be solved by them, if they really commit themselves for the service of people.
Distributing 61 appointment orders under compassionate basis among the kins of violence affected unemployed youth, the Minister said that these orders cannot compensate the loss of precious human lives and the move only provides maximum possible relief to the affected. He said that soon after the takeover of the present government, General Administration Department was asked to speed up all the pending cases and said that during last 8 months 826, SRO-43cases were cleared. Mr. Rather said that he has assured during the budget session that all the pending 2303 cases would be settled during next six months.
The Finance Minister said that the government has decided to provide Rs 4 lakh each to the educated youth who don’t opt for employment, adding that Rs 50.60 lakh have been distributed among 1267 such cases so far.
Saying that District Development Board meeting would be held soon in the district, the Minister said that the district plan is to implemented by district officers and it is imperative upon them to execute development works in letter and spirit. He said that all the development works would be reviewed in the district occasionally and close vigil kept will be kept to oversee these works.
Mr. Rather said that with the earnest efforts of the State government led by Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Prime Minister has been kind enough to provide the State with liberal funding and developing it as the model State of the country. He said that the Prime right from the initial stage has taken keen interest to change the developmental scenario of the state adding that the time has come when the promises are being given practical shape.
Mr. Rather earlier enroute paid a surprise visit to the Tehsil office Budgam and interacted with the people there. He personally heard the grievances of the people and issued on-spot-orders for their speedy redressal.
Earlier, while welcoming the Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam said that these SRO cases were pending since so many years, adding that dearth of adequate posts was the main hurdle in the process. Asking the officers to shape their attitude and behavior while listening to the public grievances, the Deputy Commissioner said that the doors of upright and performing officer are always open for public. He said if someone deviates from the principle, he or she does not deserve to be the public servant.
