J&K Governor lauds IAF for helping people affected by calamities
Srinagar July 18: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today lauded the vital role being played by the Indian Air Force (IAF), particularly in meeting emergencies and natural dcalamities in the state.
The IAF always helps to provide succour to the people, particularly of far-flung and inaccessible areas, by launching rescue and relief operations, Mr Vohra said to Air Officer commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, Air Marshal N A K Browne, who called on him Mr Vohra said that whenever there is any calamity or accident, the Air Force has been providing crucial help by rushing relief materials, medicines, essential commodities and evacuating the injured for treatment.
An official spokesman said here this afternoon that during the meeting, which lasted for about an hour, various matters, including the overall security situation in the region, came under discussion.
The Governor also thanked the Air Force, yet again, for the invaluable role //played by it during the period of Governors Rule last year when elections to the State Assembly were conducted.
At that time the IAF had then organized hundreds of sorties to transport men and materials to far-off and disconnected polling stations.
Air Marshal Browne briefed the Governor about the fresh initiatives being taken by the Air Force in regard to guarding of the frontiers.(UNI)
