Create movement for science and technology: VC to college principals
Srinagar July 11: Following its commitment to come closer to the society and popularize science education in the valley, Kashmir University Vice Chancellor today asked the collage principals to create a movement for science and technology in Kashmir while seeking their active participation to make the programme science and society a grand success.
He was speaking to the Principals of the affiliated collages of valley at the first meeting of the programme science and society launched by KU two weeks back.
Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Riyaz Punjabi said on the occasion that this programme will serve as science out reach program of the University of Kashmir. VC added that since science and technology are no longer specialized enterprises confined to factories and laboratories: but they have become synonymous with human society. He added that the fundamental contribution of science and technology is to shape mankind for better and look at the human- built world as an integrated whole.
VC said Science has brought many advances to society and modern life could not be imagined without Science. In every activity said VC technology is driven by Science. Both Science and Technology have changed the shape of mankind.
The major objectives of the program science and society said VC are popularization of science at school and college level by Conducting seminars , conferences , workshops for science teachers .Conduct of series of lectures in different schools , colleges by subject experts, science awareness for a general public, improving scientific literacy, and promotion of scientific temper through mass media.
Earlier Dr Naseer Iqbal co -coordinator science and society made a power point presentation before the selected audience described the programme as very innovative and said that such kind of programmes on science and society will for sure popularize science education in the state." we are committed to realize the dream of changing Kashmir into a knowledge society and this is a step towards that direction added Dr Naseer Registrar Kashmir University Prof Syed Fayaz was also present in the meeting .
KU team will henceforth be visiting all the collages of the valley and the seminars and exhibitions will be held in all the collages of the valley.
