Srinagar, Jul 8: Undeclared curfew has been imposed in many parts of civil lines in the summer capital Srinagar, where 50 people were injured when security forces opened fire in the air and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators.

The demonstrators set on fire a police vehicle after the dead body of a missing youth was recovered in the downtown this morning.

The injured included security force personnel also.

Police however, said restrictions under Section 144 has been imposed to maintain law and order and avoid any loss of life or damage to property.

The trouble started at Maisuma, when the body of a student of Islamia College Asrar Ahmad, a local resident, who was missing since Saturday, was found at Malkah in the downtown city in the morning.

The family members of the deceased and residents of Maisuma, who were protesting for the past four days demanding immediate action to trace Asrar, alleged that he went missing in security force custody.

They further alleged that it was because of this reason, police did not take any action.

Hundreds of people, mostly youths and women, took to the streets, raising ''pro-freedom'' slogans at Maisuma. Later they marched to Budshah Chowk, the main road leading to Civil Secretariat, the seat of the government, where they set on fire a police vehicle.
