Indefinite curfew continues in Baramulla, Sopore, relaxed for night

Baramulla July 02: An indefinite curfew continued in Baramulla and Sopore town of north Kashmir for the fourth day today as fresh clashes occurred during relaxation period for 11 hours from 1900 hrs last evening. However, during the relaxation period, Section 144 CrPC remained imposed in these towns.
Four youths were killed after security forces and police opened fire to disperse demonstrators in Baramulla town, where the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were sent to their barracks after the government decided to deploy only state police to maintain law and order.
The decision followed after a murder case was registered against a CRPF personnel who resorted to unprovoked firing, killing a youth at Khanpora on June 30 evening. Official sources said today curfew was relaxed in Baramulla and Sopore towns last evening after a meeting between the administration and local citizens.
However, during the relaxation period there were incidents of stone pelting from some areas.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Baramulla, Lateef-ul-Zaman Deva said situation was relatively by and large normal yesterday as compared to previous days, after the withdrawal of CRPF from the town.
He said curfew was relaxed to enable people to purchase essentials.
However, he said, during the relaxation period assemble of five or more person remained banned under Section 144 CrPc. (UNI)
