Srinagar July 02: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has said that government was deliberately stopping the voice of the decent and damaging the efforts to review the democratic structure in the state. She was addressing media persons today on the out skirts of the Srinagar city after being prevented from proceeding to Baramulla . she was accompanied by senior party leaders Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Nizamudin Bhat , Syed Bashart A Bukhari and Youth president Bashir Assad, Senoir Party Leader and former Dy. Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who represents Baramulla in state Assembly was also prevented from going to his constituency.
Mehbooba Mufti Said government was completely cut off from the ground situation as was evident from recent addresses of the Chief Minister Omar Obdullah . She said it was regrettable that a Chief Minister should have said that his government was least effected by Hartals and Strikes which conveyed an impression that he had closed his eyes and ears to public outrage and protest.
PDP president said the people of Kashmir has been squeezed into a tight corner , if they come out on streets they face bullets and if their representatives in the Assembly wanted to register their protest and express solidarity with the people they too were subjected to brute force.
She said the people of Shopian had been on strike for more than a month demanding justice within the system. It took entire Kashmir to demonstrate for ten days to make this government register an FIR in a case which from they won showed as an obvious rape and murder. And when the FIR was ultimately registered it turned out that all evidence had been destroyed, she said.
Mehbooba Mufti said the government intentions of hushing up the case and shielding the culprits was now very clear. Instead of going after the perpetrators they were busy silencing those who demanded action.
The dreaded PSA was being invoked against 14 year old like Nayeem of Srinagar to the Imams of Shopian. She said such insensitivity on the part of a government was being witnessed first time after the departure of previous National conference government in 2002.
Mehbooba said she and her colleagues wanted to go to Baramulla only to condole the death and share the grief of families four victims of Police brutality. They also wanted to express their solidarity with the people of Baramulla who were facing acute difficulty and hardships but the government she said prevented them physically from proceeding beyond Parimpora.
Earlier the security staff of the PDP president and her collegues refused to do duty on her visit to Baramulla when she started off from her residence in Srinagar. After she decided to go in private vehicle the gates of her residence were locked to prevent the leaders from going out.
It was after a wait of fifteen minutes at her gate that the security vehicles received the instructions to carry them and the gates were opened. But after traveling up to Parimpora the PDP president and her colleagues found that a security wall had been erected on the National highway.
They sat on Dharna for about one and half hour after which the lady police physically lifted her and put her in the security car which was ordered to take her back.
Muzaffar Hussain Beigh tried to take another route to reach Baramulla but he was prevented there also.
The PDP president has expressed concern at the spread of police brutality in different parts of the valley . she said it was condemnable that the police vehicle ran over the youth injuring Nazir Ah and Parvez Ah of Purchoo Pulwama and later the police used force against unarmed protestors and injured one Javed Ah of Chat pora Pulwama by shelling .She said these tactics of the government are taking the state to the brink of the disaster.
The other leaders who expressed their solidarity with the people of Pulwama and Baramulla are Mohd Khalil Band and Ab Razak Zawoora . they also expressed their concern over the use of brutal force by the police and demanded immediate action against the erred officials.
