Day 3rd: Protests continued over custodial disappearance of Doru youth
Doru, July 01: Protests continued for the third consecutive day today as people of Chakpath Larkipora Doru demonstrated against the custodial disappearance of teenager allegedly by troops of 36 RR from an Army camp at Larkipora on June 28.
The family members and local people vowed to intensify their agitation if the Govt. fails to trace the boy and punish the army personnel.
“We have been suffering otherwise from the last twenty years as the camp people have been harassing the people particularly youngsters”, said a local Abdul Rehman.
Sixteen year old Basharat Ahmad son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat of Chakpath Doru according to family members was summoned by the troops of 36RR on Sunday morning and since then his whereabouts are not known.
Basharat’s Father Mohammad Maqbool Bhat said that at around 9:30 AM he accompanied him to the camp gate from were he went inside. “When he did not return till 1PM I went again to the camp to enquire about him, they told me that he had left the camp 1 hour before”.
“Where then he would go”, questioned Maqbool with tears in his eyes and said district administration has assured us of bringing him back.
“These Army personals are telling lie”, Bhat added and said his son was not involved in any crime and army was unnecessarily calling him to camp.
Commanding officer 36RR Colonel Sundaram admitted that they have summoned Basharat.
“Yes, he was summoned here, it was a routine visit and thereafter he left the camp”, he added.
Meanwhile protest demonstrations were held in entire Doru Shahabad over the alleged enforced disappearance of the Chakpath youth. At evening thousands of protesters from Doru came to the streets demanding immediate release of Basharat.
“Youth pelts stones on police and other paramilitary forces at Doru, chakpath, Dehrun injuring 6 police men” unconfirmed reports said.
Police erected barricades at various places in Doru to stop protesters from peripheral areas coming to Tehsil headquarter. Media personals were also barred to enter the chakpath area.
Talking to NAK, SHO Doru Farooq Ahmad Reshi said, “We have lodged the FIR Under No. 53/sec 364RPC against the 36RR and investigation is going on”.(NAK)
