Seminar on export of Books at Srinagar
Srinagar, June 28:The Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Association in India (FPBAI) in collaboration with National Book Trust of India and Ministry for Human Resource Development, Government of India organized a seminar on “Export of Books’ here today. Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Riyaz Panjabi presided.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that publication has emerged as a big industry in India which brings all the academicians and educational institutions close to each other. He said holding of such programmes was a good initiative and emphasized upon the writers to write in such a fashion which can meet the global needs and competition. He asked the organizing agency to arrange more such programmes adding that such programmes would provide a platform for publishers and printers of the state to grow in national as well as international markets.
Vice Chancellor said that Kashmiri course would be started for non-Kashmiri people shortly in the University.
A book “Behaviour Problems in pre-school children” by Yasmeen Ashai was also released by the Vice-Chancellor on the occasion.
Chairman, CAPEXIL, S.K Gai, President, Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Association, SC Sethi, MD, Laxmi publications Inder Kumar Gupta, and Mr. S.K Das,. Prof Vishan, Prof. Zaman were present and spoke on the occasion.
In his address, Mr. Sethi said that over the years, with the sustained efforts of CAPEXIL, the export of Indian books has shown remarkable increase from modest turnover of Rs. 80 million in 1980-81 to Rs. 7870 million in 2007-08.
