NDRF holds interactive session on Disaster Management

Udhampur, June 28: With a view to discuss various measures to be adopted during natural and man made disasters, a team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) headed by Inspector, J.D. Chander Paul of 27th BN ITBP had an interactive session with Civil Defence Wardens, prominent citizens and NGOs, here today.

SP City, Rajeshwar Singh, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Udhampur, Bodh Raj, Tehsildar (Territorial), Ashwani Kumar, prominent citizens including Ved Prakash Pummy, Sham Swaroop Kalsotra, Advocate S.D. Kotwal, Sham Lal Gupta, Subash Sharma and Vikram Slathia were also present in the meeting.

Lectures on precautions, rescue and relief in the event natural and man made disasters mainly earthquakes and road accidents were delivered by the experts of NDRF like construction of earthquake resistance houses, do and don’ts to be observed at the time of earthquake for safety etc. Terming the road accidents as a major man made disaster, the experts said that proper care and timely action could save the precious lives especially during the first hour of the accident.

Speaking on the occasion, SP City said that there is a greater need to create mass awareness ont the subject especially, in educational institutions. He hoped that the team, after getting proper feedback from this meeting, would submit their report to the concerned authorities for chalking out future strategies to tackle such exigencies especially in context of Udhampur district.

Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, gave a brief resume of the activities being conducted by National Disaster Relief Force in the district and said that the team has already held demonstration sessions at Dhramthal, Samroli, Chenani and at Govt. High School, Roun to educate the masses about the preparedness in the event of disaster.

During the session, face to face interaction was also held in which the citizens, wardens and NGOs gave their suggestions for managing man made disasters.
