NGO takes out rally to highlight rights of challenged people

Srinagar, June 27: On eve of birth anniversary of Helen Keller, World-renowned activist of the rights of physically-challenged, a rally was organized today by Humanity Welfare Organization from Press Enclave to the Chief Minister’s Private Office at Sonawar. On reaching Sonwar, they presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister’s Private Office.

Humanity Welfare Organization is a NGO, which works for rights of persons who are physically and mentally challenged.

The rally, which also included children, youth and women with different physical and mental disabilities, was organized to highlight problems being faced by them so that people are sensitized towards protection of rights of these persons.

Among other issues, the organization stressed the need for easy access to government offices by construction of ramps and lifts; creation of special educator in schools; wheelchairs for people with disabilities to be of top quality; State-level seminars to promote awareness about grievances of disability among common masses; full-time Director be appointed to carry out day-to-day activities of Composite Regional Centre; special transport for disabled persons; and special schemes be chalked out for mentally-challenged persons.
