Srinagar June 25: CPI(M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran politician and journalist Comrade Ram Piara Saraf who passed away on Wednesday.
Addressing a condolence meeting of CPI(M) State Unit held here today to pay homage to the departed leader, Tarigami described Saraf as the pioneer of socialist movement in Jammu and Kashmir who always stood for upholding secular and democratic values that invited wide applause for him. He said that Saraf was a great visionary who throughout his life worked for the welfare and up-liftment of the neglected and downtrodden especially the working class. Late Saraf always advocated for empowerment of common masses and had an unparallel political integrity and identity, Tarigami said and added that for his commendable role in political and social set ups in the State ,he would be long remembered.
Tarigami said that the late leader was a staunch believer of secularism, social advancement and democracy with uncompromising political convictions, who throughout his life tirelessly worked for strengthening communal harmony, brotherhood and amity and always dejected the divisive and parochial tendencies in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Saraf was not only the true stake holder in state politics but had had a great role in the national political arena who actively remained involved in building peace, confidence and reconciliation between India and Pakistan. His such an approach was later on acknowledged by the political stalwarts of the sub-continent which vindicates his political prudency, Tarigami added.
The CPI(M) State Secretary paying rich tributes to late Saraf said that for his upright political commitment he survived the testing times and doctored the farsighted political philosophy that was based on viable democratic alternatives. He said that being the founder of Democratic National Conference, Mr. Saraf was instrumental in converging the secular and progressive forces at one plate form to strive for accelerating the efforts to ensure political and economic prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the late leader was a genuine and dedicated progressive thinker and statesman, who through his writings and political speeches moulded the masses towards the progressive ideology, for the purpose he even parted ways from the ruling parties in the State.
The meeting paid rich tributes to the departed leader and recalled his contribution in political and social circles. The meeting conveyed heart felt condolences to the bereaved members.
