DC Srinagar inaugurates disaster preparedness programme for Srinagar-Jammu National highway
Srinagar-June-24:Divisional Adminsitration Kashmir in collaboration with Action Aid International organised two days joint disaster preparedness training programme at Revenue Training Institute Bemina Srinagar.
The training programme was inaugurated by Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo Deputy Commissioner Srinagar. Amongst others those who attended included Kachu Isfandyar Khan, Director Land Records, Mohammed Shafi, SP Kulgam, Zahoor Ahmed, Principal Civil Defence Training Institute, Mohammed Akbar Ganai, Addl DC Srinagar, Mohammed Akbar Dy Director Fire Services Srinagar, Dr G.M.Dar Disaster Managment Centre IMPA, Sameena Mir Project Coordinator Action Aid and Aamir Ali, OSD with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
Around 40 volunteers from villages falling on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway between Qazigund and Banihal have been selected for training, as this area is considered highly vulnerable to accidents, as well as frequent road closures, due to heavy snowfall in winters. Valedictory function is being held on Thursday, which would be chaired by Dilbagh Singh, Inspector General of Police Home Guards & Civil Defence. The training included Search & Rescue, First Aid, Fire fighting etc in order to handle any calamity on the NHW.
The volunteers are expected to be the first responders in case of any calamity on the national highway.
