300 Young Artists Participate in Art Competition

Srinagar, June 24: More than 300 children across the Kashmir valley today participated in on the spot painting and art competition organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages at Tagore Hall, this afternoon. The competition was inaugurated by Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas, Secretary J&K Cultural Academy while prominent artists of Kashmir valley Gayoor Hassan, M. A. Mehboob and A. R. John were also present on the occasion to guide the new talent in the field of fine Art.

Speaking on the occasion, Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas impressed upon the new generation to associate and relate themselves with their roots and origin. He said that our sole mote of organizing such types of events is to propagate our centuries old traditions including the tradition of ‘Art’ among our new generation. He also impressed upon the children and youth present on the occasion that they not only concentrate on modern Art but must carry forward their folk arts legacy and work for its preservation.

Gayoor Hassan in his address impressed upon the participating youths to take the subject “Art” seriously and vigorously. He said keeping in view the globalization the Art needs new blood and genius minds and fertile Kashmir can contribute and teach the world in this field as we have a history of more than five thousand years of Art here. He also stressed the youths to understand the relations of computer and Art and bring themselves and compete with the world in this field.

Earlier welcoming the guests Farhat Lone, Cultural Officer, Kashmir Division said that we are planning to hold such type of competitions in each district of valley in next few months under talent hunt programme.

The artifacts prepared by the budding artists were adjudicated on the spot by the judges and recommended the awards in favour of 26 artists.

In Amature group Zulfikar Ali, Syed Ilyas and Irfan Mir of Institute of Music and Fine Art were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In Senior Group the First and Second Awards goes in favour of Saika Ashraf and Mehak Manzoor of Presentation Convent School, Mohammad Anas and Mohammad Arslan students of two local Schools adjudged best first and Second in Junior Group.

Nismat Manzoor, Farkhanda, Zamin adjuged best first thee under Infant Group.

The Award function was conducted by Ashraf Tak and Presided by Shameema Gul Additional Secretary Academy Kashmir Division.
