Sagar tours old city, asks officers to speed up developmental works

Srinagar, June 22: The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Ali Mohammad Sagar today conducted an extensive tour of the old city Srinagar to oversee implementation of various developmental works.

The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir Shafi Mir and other senior officers of various executing agencies like PHE, PDD and UEED.
The areas visited by the Minister included Maqdoom Sahib, Nowhatta, Khuwaja Bazar, Khanyar, Babdemb,Alikadal, Bulbulanker, Wazpora, Zainakadal, Maharajgung, Nawakadal, Jamalatta and Nawabazar.

Sagar while interacting with a cross section of people said that the government is committed to provide quality civic amenities to them through creation and augmentation of infrastructure.

The Minister asked the officers to speed up the developmental works and also get a proper feedback from the people living in those areas so that they are properly implemented and completed in a time bound manner. “The involvement of people of the area is very essential as they can very effectively facilitate the developmental plans undertaken by the government”, he maintained.

While asking the officers to remove bottle-necks in the city, the Minister said that adequate compensation should also be provided to the families so displaced. He further asked the officers of various departments like PHE, PDD, UEED and R&B to work in close coordination and synergy so that the schemes are properly implemented.

At waazipora, Sagar asked the officers to remove the remaining structures to ensure road connectivity is established between Aali Kadal and Naalahmar through the Mairwaiz lane at the earliest.

The Minster also inspected the macdamization of roads in the old city. He appreciated the quality of work and asked the concerned to speed up the work so that the roads are completed in a time bound manner.

It is pertinent to mention that 325 Kilometers of roads are to be macadamized at a cost of Rs. 60 Crore in the Srinagar city.
