Lone visits Sonawari: Asks authorities to ensure irrigation facilities

Srinagar, June 12: To mitigate the problems and grievances of the people, the Speaker Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone today visited various areas of Sonawari constituency including Sadarkote, Hajjan, Vijpara and Gundi Jahangir.

During his visit, the people of these areas put forth their individual and collective problems which include repairing of irrigation and water pumps, repairs and renovation of lanes, drains and link roads, installation of transformers and replacement of old electric poles.

Lone gave patient hearing to the people and assured them that their demands would be looked into. In some cases, he directed the concerned for early action.

Interacting with the people, Lone said that the government is committed to ensure equitable development of all the three regions of the state with focus on speedy progress of far-off areas.

Later, regarding repairing of lift irrigation schemes and other issues, the Speaker convened a meeting with the officers and engineers of Irrigation department. Threadbare discussions were held with regard to replacement of pumping equipped with allied fittings. Lone was informed that replacement of 35 irrigation pumps with allied fittings has been approved under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) and the work on these schemes would be started soon. The Speaker directed the concerned to prepare a separate scheme for Khujabal village. He also directed them to engage a mechanic on each motor pump so that the pumps would function properly.

Lone directed the concerned authorities to ensure installation of all the lift irrigation accessories on war footing so that the agricultural activities are undertaken on time in the state.(NAK)
