VC for introduction of innovative courses in distance learning
Srinagar May 25: Vice chancellor Kashmir university Prof Riyaz Punjabi Monday inaugurated a three day education conference on " higher education in changing scenario : challenges and prospects" organized by Government college for Women M A Road Srinagar at Lala Arifa Auditorium of the college.
In his inaugural address Vice chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi once again showed his concern over the abysmal decline in science education and reiterated his commitment to make science education popular in the state.
Prof Punjabi said that today we need market oriented courses as well and there is dire need for the up gradation of the existing syllabus in higher education . He sought help from the Government for further infrastructure development and public participation as well for the same. Vice Chancellor KU asked the policy makers to keep regional requirements into consideration while framing the higher education policies. He said that teachers have to be well paid and lot of incentives have to be given to them if we want good results. Prof Punjabi said that distance mode of learning is for sure going to benefit the students in a big way if at all innovative courses are introduced which are in tune with the current needs. VC was all praise for the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) of the women’s college for organizing the conference on such a vital theme.
Former Vice Chancellor University of Mysore Karnataka Prof P Venkataramaya delivered the key note address and spoke at length about the challenges to higher education. Earlier the Principal of the host college in her welcome address Prof Zeenat Ara thanked VC KU for his support and guidance for holding the conference .Dr Yasmeen Ashai coordinator IQAC host collage also spoke at the inaugural session. Prof A M Shah controller examinations, director IQAC KU Prof Mushtaq Qureshi was present on the occasion besides academia , students scholars and members of the civil society.
