Khalida blames brother Farooq of exploiting father's name
"Late Sher-e-Kashmir's (Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah) name has been exploited for petty political gains till date. Now we will not allow any political party to do so," Khalida
Srinagar May 10: Awami National Conference (ANC) president Begum Khalida Shah today accused ruling National Conference chief and her brother Farooq Abdullah of "exploiting" the name of their father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for petty political gains.
"Late Sher-e-Kashmir's (Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah) name has been exploited for petty political gains till date. Now we will not allow any political party to do so," Khalida said addressing a series of poll rallies in Baramulla Parliamentary constituency, slated to go to polls on May 13.
Khalida, who contested against Abdullah in Srinagar Lok Sabha Constituency, said her party entered the election process four months back but managed to awaken people to the hollow promises made by parties- an apparent reference to the ruling National Conference.
Khalida's son and vice-president of the party Muzaffar Shah addressed rallies in Panditpora, Hajan and Sumbal and said ANC is emerging as a third force in Jammu and Kashmir.
"You have to distinguish between the genuine and non-genuine," Shah told the people adding "it is a battle of principles for which ANC has entered into the field".
He said his party favours tripartite talks for resolution of Kashmir issue, revocation of special powers to the armed forces, employment to jobless youth and release of detenues.
