Media persons should be fearless, says J-K Dy CM
Srinagar May 13: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has asked media persons to work fearlessly and report events without distorting facts.
"Media men should fearlessly report different events and happenings without succumbing to any pressure," Baig said during the launch of a local electronic channel at Baramulla, 55 kms from here last evening.
On Sunday, a photojournalist of a local media Ashok Sodhi was caught in a crossfire between the militants and the army in Samba district while covering the shootout.
Baig said the media acts as a mirror of a society and therefore any distorted version of an event can have serious repercussions.
The deputy chief minister also asked the press to give regular coverage to various international events and not restrict themselves to local events.
"In the present context, any event happening anywhere in the world can have effects locally whether it is political, social or environmental."
